Approximate Time Required: If you choose to do stand-alone examples as a quick break: 2 minutes, otherwise: 10-20 minutes.
Objective: To provide a quick, fun exercise that will facilitate the interaction of strangers and their formation into task-oriented groups.

Procedure:
This is strictly a “for fun” exercise and should be introduced as such. It purports simply to give participants a chance to do some liberal translation by interpreting visual and written communications.
- Form your pupils into small groups of 3-4 persons each. Tell them that they have 5 minutes to decipher the 20 brainteasers found on the following page into a word or brief phrase. (The team with the highest score may be promised a prize).
- You can also use the tasks on the other side as stand-alone brain teasers (e.g. as a break from your lesson or in the lunch break).
Materials Required:
Brainteasers as shown, on a handout, overhead transparency or drawn on the blackboard.
